12 Natural Beauty Hacks

Do you want natural, glowing skin without spending tons of money on makeup and “miracle” products? The beauty industry is almost a 300 billion dollar industry. If you’re like many women, you want affordable (or even free) skin care tips that have (preferably) no toxic chemicals or are organic in nature.

I know it may be more expensive, but try to buy organic makeup, if possible. Amanda Jo of Organic Bunny has some great reviews on a wide variety of organic makeup products to take the hassle out of trial and error (and saving money as a result).

  1. Honey Face Mask. Warm up approximately 1 tbs of raw honey in your hands and spread it evenly across your face. Let it soak for 10 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water. Pat dry.
  2. Sugar or Salt Scrubs. There are a ton of sugar scrub recipes that are easy to make. The general rule of thumb is a 2 to 1 ratio of olive oil and salt/sugar to make a scrub. You can add essential oils to make it any scent you desire. Here is a sugar AND salt scrub recipe.
  3. Chilled Tea Bags. Use chilled green tea bags on tired, puffy eyes for 5 to 15 minutes at a time to reduce inflammation and absorb antioxidants.
  4. Coconut Water. Replace your regular bottled water with coconut water, whyich helps keep you more hydrated and adds electrolytes for an added beauty and health bonus.
  5. Shea butter. Replace chapstick with shea butter, which doesn’t have any harsh added chemicals AND is easy to spread due to its high concentration of fatty acids and vitamins. Here is a good DIY recipe.
  6. Coconut Oil. You’ve probably heard all of the health benefits of coconut oil touted. In addition to being a healthy fat you can consume easily by something as simple as using it in place of butter in a frying pan, it also makes a great natural hair conditioner, body lotion, and even cuticle moisturizer.
  7. Vitamin E Oil. Vitamin E oil can be used in a lot of DIY beauty recipes, but you can even get healthier lashes by regularly applying it (plus they look longer!). It also works well in body wash or homemade lotion recipes.
  8. Avacado Face Mask. Crush up an avacado mixed with natural honey and lemon to create a smooth face make before bed. Leave on 10 minutes or so and wash off with lukewarm water. Gently pat dry.
  9. Natural Makeup Remover. Use almond, grapeseed or olive oil with a cotton ball to gently remove makeup. Rinse clean with lukewarm water when you are finished.
  10. Sour Cream. A little known beauty tip is to use sour cream to help smooth the texture of rough skin by adding 1 tbsp to your clean skin twice a week.
  11. Bone Broth. Bone broth has a plethora of health benefits, including beauty benefits. Bone broth helps your skin’s elasticity, helping to reduce the appearince of fine lines and wrinkles that come naturally with aging.
  12. Aloe Vera. Promote healthy skin with aloe vera, which is a natural soother for burns. It also helps healing with skin irritation and inflammation such as acne and cuts.

Have you tried any of these? Which are your favorites?
