10 Simple Tricks To Make Your Home Look Brighter

If you think your home is just too dark and find it too depressing, then you may want to lighten up the mood by lightening up the room. It isn’t hard to make your home seem brighter and most of these simple tricks can be done within a matter of seconds or even a few hours to make your home look and feel brighter.

Paint!

Our first tip is to paint. This trick is the most difficult and complicated of all the tricks to make a room look brighter, but is often the most effective. We often choose out favorite colors even though they may fee warm and homey, they may not do the room any justice when it comes to brightness. So the first trick is to paint your rooms in a lighter color. If you already have used a light color, then put a fresh coat of paint up to brighten the room a bit.

Turn on the Light (duhhh)

Our second tip may seem a bit obvious, but the truth is it helps. Turn on the light. This may be surprising to some people, but many people will decorate with lamps that they will never use. If you want to brighten up your home, turn on some lights. You don’t have to turn on every light in the house, but turning on a few here and there will help you to brighten up the room.

Check Your Lighting

Our third tip is to take a look at your lighting fixtures and possibly have them replaced. Each light fixture is different and may not be enough to light up a room, especially if a room has been expanded on. You could go for higher light bulb wattage, but replacing the fixture is going to be more effective for brightening up a room.

Mirrors

Our fourth tip is more fun than anything. Mirrors are a fantastic trick for making your home look brighter. Most of us think that mirrors only show us the bad, but the truth is, they reflect light, which in this case, makes them good. By adding a simple mirror to a room, all the light will reflect, making your room look twice as bright.

Open The Blinds

Our fifth tip is another simple matter, but once again, you will be surprised. Don’t be afraid to open up the blinds, natural light is a great way to make your home look brighter. Since our fifth and sixth tip go hand-in-hand we will share them together.

Replace Your Dark Curtains

Our sixth tip to brighten up your home is to replace the curtains. Dark curtains will make even the brightest day dim, by buying lighter curtains you will brighten up the dark.

Clean Your Windows and Use The Right Light Bulbs

Our seventh and eight tips are based on common mistakes made by people who complain about dark rooms. Make sure your windows are clean to let more light in and make sure you are using the right light bulbs.

Adding Skylight or Timed Lights

Tips nine and ten are also ones that can go hand in hand because remodeling may just be the ticket. Adding a skylight to a room is a great and easy way to light up a room. If you don’t want a skylight, you may want to add timed lights to your home that will adjust as the day goes on, keeping your house at its brightest throughout the whole day.
